belongs to a new generation of African musicians born outside the caste jalis. Born in Guinea-Conakry, Diallo, from very small, takes his guitar on the traditional sounds of his people. At age eleven, his mother gave him a guitar which he learned to play while he accompanied his father, a doctor who was traveling across the country. This made it possible to know the makenke, the sous and Foula, the languages \u200b\u200bof the main ethnic groups in Guinea.

While attending college, he led the group "Sons of Rais", with whom he traveled throughout West Africa. After completing his studies, Diallo alternated performances with local groups such as Love System, Kaloum Star Sorsornet Bembeya Jazz and Rhythm.

While in Europe, was invited to join the pan-African Fatala. With them he performed at major festivals in the Old World. When he crossed the continent, having participated in several folk festivals and jazz, Diallo fell in love with Canada, to the extent that fixed his place of residence in the city of Vancouver. In this country alternates his solo career with the multi-cultural group Bafing, created by himself.

In the music of Alpha Yaya Diallo reflects the classic sounds of their ancestors, but without neglecting the development and mergers that have been happening in African music: Cuban rhythms returned to Africa Western Cape Verdean sounds Diallo listened to small and musical influence of American country where you live.

His songs speak of the sociopolitical situation of their country, their migrant status, travel and adventure.

Alpha Yaya Diallo is a great guitarist. He is known as one of the musicians in the region more flexible, adept in many styles of various ethnic groups in Guinea. Although it has its own style that is instantly recognizable. The style of Alpha is a fluid stream of notes, framed within a precise time and free. From the sweeping melodies sound that inspire deep reflection to the polyrhythmic drumming and dance arrangements, Diallo plays beautiful music and touching.

Diallo was born in Guinea-Conakry and has been playing since age 12. While in college, he became the leader of the Sons of Rais (Sons of the Rais), the group at the University of Conakry. Alpha toured with them throughout West Africa. After his graduation continued to serve with Love Systemsr, Kaloum Star, rumba group Sorsornet Bembeya Jazz and Rhythm. After moving to Europe, he was invited to join the Pan-African supergroup Fatala. With them toured festivals and concert tours in Germany, Italy, Britain, Netherlands, Switzerland and Belgium.

Diallo played in several folk and jazz festivals in Canada and fell in love with the country. He now lives in Vancouver.

Since 1992 Diallo is a multicultural group based in Canada called Baffing and composed of Xerxes Gohbai, Thierry Matumona, Aboubarou Cumana, Cumana Yamoussa, Aicha Sylla, and Eliot Polsky.

Like Salif Keita and Baaba Maal, who greatly admires, Diallo belongs to a new generation of musicians from West Africa born out of the race of jalis (musicians and oral historians) who once had the exclusive right to art . This allows a sense of release as yet unknown. Although his music draws from the classical repertoire of his ancestors, Diallo knows to reflect the sounds of the modern world, reminding us that traditions evolve. You can hear the music of Diallo sounds of Cuban rhythms returned to West Africa with large groups of 1950. There are also some of the music of Cape Verde that Diallo listened when I was little and visiting relatives in Senegal, and the influence of contemporary America where he lives, and of course the majestic and refined sound of early music at the court of Mandinga empire.

Alpha ********************* Yaya Diallo, guitarist, singer, songwriter is a true multi-cultural Canadian artist performing in French, English and his native Guinean languages of Foulani and Souso.

Diallo is a uniquely multi-talented artist. His dexterous acoustic and electric guitar-playing, with its fluid melodic lines and compelling grooves, places him in the front ranks of African musicians. While his band, Bafing, features high energy African rhythms, visually captivating dancers and a relentless percussion section.

Alpha was discovered in the late 1980’s by Peter Gabriel’s Real World Records when he was touring as the lead guitarist for the group Fatala.

Born in Guinea, West Africa, Diallo was frequently on the move with his family, growing up in a number of regions. There he was exposed to a variety of cultures, and musical traditions from the Malenke, Sousou, and his own Foulani people. In addition he spent time in neighbouring Senegal and picked up the popular and powerful mbalax rhythm there - as well as influences from Cape Verde and the Caribbean.

By successfully uniting the traditional and the contemporary, Diallo has carved a niche for himself beside such West African luminaries as Salif Keita, Baaba Maal, Youssou N'Dour, and Ismael Lo.

With five highly-acclaimed albums of his own compositions, including Juno Award winners The Message and The Journey, it was a natural fit for him to take part in the hugely successful African Guitar Summit concert at Glenn Gould Studio in Toronto with Pa Joe, Mighty Popo, Madagascar Slim, Adam Solomon, and Donné Robert. The concert led to two recordings released by CBC Records, leading to another Juno Award for African Guitar Summit.

In 2007, Alpha was the only North American artist approached by the United Nations, to create a new work for a compilation CD that will further raise awareness around the issues of HIV/AIDS, hunger, and debt relief in Africa. The finished piece, Imme Africa / Get Up Africa is a tribute and a call to the people of that continent – their potential and responsibility.

Diallo's musical inheritance is something he always wants to nurture and to build upon. He never strays far from these roots, while at the same time ensuring that his performances and his albums make use of the very latest advances in music technology.

Alpha Yaya Diallo is one of the most inspired and inspirational artists on the World Beat circuit today.
