Irakere Group was formed by Armando Cuervo (Percussion), Oscar Valdes (vocals and percussion), Jorge "El Niño" Alfonso (congas), Enrique Plá (drums), Carlos del Puerto (Bass), Jorge Varona (trumpet) Arturo Sandoval (trumpet), Carlos Averhoff (tenor saxophone), Paquito D'Rivera (alto sax) and Carlos Emilio Morales (guitar). Their repertoires over the years have been a clearly defined combination of jazzy themes, experimental and dance, with elaborate arrangements that allow us to appreciate the virtuosity of the soloists and the quality of the compositions. All of them is a mix that has made the presence of Irakere on stage a must in any event on the world jazz.

The impressive sound of Irakere has impacted many different audiences, each presentation demonstrating the physical and cultural stature of these men, which highlights a unique way the piano master Chucho Valdes, who for his outstanding contributions to modern variants of Jazz pianist and quality is considered world leader in this genre. Irakere live drummers in Africa, but also metals and keyboards Cuba Valdés, a piano teacher, a virtuoso on his instrument, and unquestionably a school of musical quality.
